Yi (Rita) Shan
Yi Shan, also known as Rita Shan is an information technology architect with a large credit union. Ms. Shan is also co-founder of the U.S.-China Alliance. Ms. Shan served as the executive director of the Friends of China Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum, has also served as board member and two terms as President of the Organization of Chinese American Women, Virginia Chapter. Rita has been engaged in the National China Garden project since its inception in 2003 and was instrumental in introducing a number of Pioneer and Charter Donors to the U.S. National Arboretum in support of the project from 2005-2008 as well as raising awareness and visibility about the value and importance of the project to learning about Chinese culture and strengthening U.S.-China relations. Ms. Shan has organized and delivered a number of large cultural events in the Capital, State of Maryland as well as Northern Virginia, including five (5) annual Chinese Moon Festivals at the U.S. National Arboretum to promote the China Garden project. Ms. Shan currently holds classes in Chinese cooking and culture for Families with Children from China (FCC). Ms. Shan is a founding board member of the National China Garden Foundation and served as its first treasurer.
