The National China Garden is an enduring symbol of goodwill between China and the United States. The garden offers a unique platform for strong U.S.-China relations, people–to–people exchanges and the celebration of Chinese culture and history.
More than 1.5 million visitors are expected annually at the Garden, which offers a place to come together for beauty and for shared interests for the long-term.
Help us to realize the vision for the National China Garden—a cultural bridge and a lasting bond in U.S.-China relations.
National China Garden Campaign
The National China Garden Foundation has been established to raise the funds to construct the garden and sustain the site for the public’s enjoyment for years ahead. Project funding will be raised through a $60 million capital and endowment campaign focused on private resources needed for design and construction, long-term maintenance and operations, and year-round public programs and access to the China Garden.
Fundraising Campaign Components
Garden and Cultural Center Capital Fund: A total of $35 million must be raised for the U.S. side design, construction and completion of the 12-acre classical Chinese garden at the U.S. National Arboretum (USNA).
China Garden Operating Endowment Fund: A total of $20 million must be raised to meet the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) requirement to have an endowment fund for the ongoing operation of the garden complex that ensures public and donor access to the site for generations to come.
Cultural Program Fund: A total of $5 million must be raised and designated as a program fund to ensure the ongoing offer of a rich array of cultural programs for the public, including but not limited to celebrations of traditional Chinese culture, education programs, language arts, poetry, and performances.
The National China Garden Foundation has worked with the USDA and USNA to develop a special recognition program for individuals, corporations, foundations and partners who make a contribution to the China Garden project.
Companies that make an investment in the National China Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum will be recognized with a specific set of benefits based on the level of contribution made to the project. A group of specially designed, freestanding recognition walls will be constructed and placed in prominent entry areas of the garden complex to honor significant contributions to the campaign for a period of 10 years. Campaign contributors will also be featured in an interactive, multi-media kiosk to be located in the garden complex as well as listed in all printed and electronic materials produced by the Foundation, and the on the National Arboretum and Foundation websites and social media platforms. Company representatives will be invited to participate in annual U.S.-China forums and events organized by the Foundation to take place in China and in the U.S. And the Foundation will work with the Chinese side partners in the China Garden project to promote each company’s commitment to the project to high-level U.S. and Chinese government officials and through media channels.
